$70 Million California SuperLottos Plus winner comes forward.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — More than a month after buying the winning ticket in San Francisco, a 41-year-old man has finally come forward as the winner of a $70 million lotto ticket, the California Lottery said Wednesday. Eurico Chin bought the ticket on a whim in late May at a Safeway in the Sunset District. "I thought to myself, 'why not?'" he said, according to a press release from the California Lottery. "I'm already here, might as well buy one," he reportedly said.
He purchased the winning SuperLotto Plus ticket, along with four others, at the Safeway at 2350 Noriega St. (Lottery officials did not give his city of residence, and said he wasn't interested in doing media interviews.)
Chin knew he was the winner, but waited to come forward because he was mulling over the possibilities for his loot."You have to plan carefully about what to do with the money," he said. In the meantime, Chin devised a strategy. He plans on investing most of the winnings and may buy a new house and car. He's also likely to retire, according to the press release.
From what occupation is unknown."I was watching the news and I saw that the winner was on Noriega (Street) and I remembered that I bought the ticket on Noriega," he said, according to a press release. "I thought to myself, 'Well, it might be me.'"The winning numbers matched his ticket when he checked online.
"First I was in shock, I couldn't believe it. I checked the ticket several times to make sure that I won," he said. Chin is still deciding between taking a one-time cash payment, which lottery officials estimated to be nearly $41 million before taxes or an annuity option that would score him the full winnings prior to taxes over the course of 30 years.
The Safeway store on Noriega will also receive $350,000 for selling the ticket. The award is the largest SuperLotto Plus award since a $76 million ticket purchased in Shasta City in 2009.
SuperLotto Plus is an in-state lottery game.
Players can purchase $1 tickets and pick five numbers from 1 to 47 and a Mega number between 1 to 27.

Mans Ex-Wife wins lottery and makes him a Millionaire

Milkman John Hay reckons his ex-wife is the cream of the crop — after she made him a millionaire when she scooped the Lotto jackpot.

Doreen Hay was married to John for 12 years until they divorced in 1987 after "growing apart". But they stayed best of friends, meeting up every week for Sunday lunch. So when Doreen, 70, and their son John Jr., 38, scooped £7.5 million in the UK's Lotto game, she called her ex immediately.

John, 59, said: "When she rang after the win I was thrilled for her. It never crossed my mind she'd give any to me. "It is typical of Doreen's generosity that she's thought of everyone else before herself. "She has been such a great friend. We've got on better than we did when we were married. I have never needed anyone else when I have her as a friend."

John, who earns £20,000 a year, is getting half a million from Doreen and the same amount from his winner son. He has been out on his round as usual but admitted he will soon be doing his last.

He said: "I've been on my milk round now for 30 years and I've enjoyed it. "My thoughts were turning to retirement but I didn't think I'd be able to do it for quite some time.

"Doreen's changed all that and I really don't know how to thank her." The pair met almost 40 years ago when they worked at a restaurant together. He said: "I was over the moon when she agreed to go out with me but we grew apart as man and wife. Still there's no one I'd rather spend my time with than Doreen."

Powerball $400,000,000 winner claims thier prize but chooses to remain Anonymous

The winner of last week's $400 million Powerball jackpot has claimed his prize, but the South Carolina man is asking to remain anonymous.

South Carolina lottery officials said the winner, from Columbia, presented the winning ticket Monday. Under state law, he does not have to release his name.

The lottery did give a few details about the winner. He stopped to get gas at the Murphy Express the day of the drawing last Wednesday and his wife told him to buy some hot dog buns. The store didn't sell buns, but after seeing the $400 million prize advertised, the winner bought $20 in lottery tickets instead.

Lottery officials didn't say if the man took the $399.4 million payout over 30 years or the direct cash option of $233 million.

The lucky ticket was one of 356 sold Wednesday afternoon at the gas station, nestled just off 1-20 west of Columbia. On Thursday, dozens of reporters and rows of television satellite trucks gathered at the station, along a road lined with fast-food restaurants, meat processing stores and a red barn where produce and homemade jellies are sold.

Nearby billboards played on the lottery news: "Feeling lucky? Shop at Murphys. Feeling hungry? Come on in!" "Hey Powerball winner, have you tried our pepper-coated bacon?

Lottery Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea said the winner chose a "quick pick" ticket, letting the computer select the numbers: 7-10-22-32-35, with the Powerball of 19

It's the largest Powerball winning ticket sold in South Carolina. In May, a Florida widow won the biggest Powerball jackpot in history — a $590 million pot.

Lotto winner hides $9.85 million ticket in a locked box

The Tauranga woman who bought a winning $9.85 million Lotto Powerball ticket on a whim hid it in a locked tin box in a wardrobe before claiming the prize.

The woman took the security precautions after realising on Saturday night she had scooped the big win.

She provided some information about herself yesterday after coming forward but did not want to be identified.

A confessed Absolutely Fabulous fan, she planned to celebrate by taking close friends to "dinner at a nice restaurant".

"I'll definitely be looking after the bill," she said in answers supplied to the Bay of Plenty Times.

The woman, who would not reveal her age or occupation, claimed the prize in person at the New Zealand Lotteries Commission office in Wellington yesterday after keeping the ticket secure.

"I locked it in a tin box with a padlock and hid it in a wardrobe. I was quite sure it would be safe in there. I only had to check on it once."

A couple win the lottery twice in one week !

For people who follow statistics, odds and probabilities, this piece of news must be quite surprising! A couple from Arkansas, US, struck gold twice after winning $1 million and $50,000 jackpots, both of them during this past weekend.

Stephen 54, and his wife Terri, 55, of Stuttgart, Ark., left on Friday for a weekend trip to a cabin near Greers Ferry Lake, over 100 miles away. On Saturday evening, they stopped at their local grocery in the nearby city of Pangburn. On their way to their destiny they purchased their first winning Lottery tickets and on their way back they bought their second one.

Taking about odds and probabilities, they both agree that winning the Lottery is only a matter of luck!

COULD THE NEXT WINNER BE YOU ?

A 44-YEAR-OLD immigrant from the Dominican Republic has won a 338 million dollar (£222 million) lottery jackpot in the US.
Pedro Quezada, a father of five, bought his ticket at a New Jersey liquor store.

A lump sum payout would be 221 million dollars (£145 million).
Mr Quezada said that his priority will be helping his family.

His wife, Ines Sanchez said: "I still... can't believe it. We never expected it but we thank God."
The family's apartment is in Passaic, part of working-class suburbs sprawling from New York. Neighbours spoke with pride that one of their own had struck it rich.

Eladia Vazquez described the Quezadas as "quiet and not overly talkative" but sensed that they seemed to be working all the time. "This is super for all of us on this block," she said. "They deserve it because they are hardworking people."

Neighbours said that the Quezada family has suffered bad luck in recent years. Two years, ago, thieves broke into their apartment and stole everything from clothing to jewellery. The year before, a fire destroyed much of the wine bar they run.

No one had won the Powerball jackpot since early February.

The largest Powerball jackpot ever was a 587.5 million dollar win in November.

A Curiosity of the UK Lottery ;

At the beginning of the current month, the National Lottery's 'second place' winner got a higher prize than the jackpot winners! Five winners who shared Saturday's September 2nd £4.8m National Lottery jackpot received less than the single ticket-holder who matched five numbers (second category prize) plus the bonus ball. The "second placed" ticket was worth nearly £1.5m to its holder, while the jackpot winners - who matched all six balls - will get £968,000 each. National Lottery organizer Camelot have described the situation as "very rare".
